We also updated the Tasks screen chart and the Progress screen chart and reports to show a new metric: your percent accountable. This metric gives you credit for all the tasks you mark as Done, Doing, or Not Doing.
These 3 new features are a great step forward in helping you and your team better account for each of your recurring tasks. Here’s how:
New Task Status: Not Doing
Marking a task as Not Doing lets everyone explicitly know that you aren’t doing that occurrence of the task. Previously, your only status options were Due and Done, so even though you may have known you wouldn’t get to that task on a particular day, your only option was to leave the task as Due. Now, you can free yourself – and those you’re being accountable to – from wondering whether you’re planning to do that task or not. If you know that you’re not going get to that task today, you can now simply mark it as Not Doing and everyone can adjust their expectations accordingly.
New Task Status: Doing
Marking a task as Doing lets you bucket the tasks you haven’t done yet – but still plan on doing – instead of just leaving them as Due. Previously, you didn’t have the ability to bucket these going-to-do-just-haven’t-done-yet tasks and had to mentally keep track of them since they didn’t have their own task status. Now, you can easily mark them as Doing and confidently move on, knowing you’ll be able to easily come back to them later. And, those you’re being accountable to – even if it’s only yourself – can move on, too, knowing that even though the task isn’t done yet, you’re still planning on doing it.
New Task Status: % Accountable
Seeing your percent accountable brings an added level not only of accountability, but of motivation as well. Previously, we tracked the percent complete: the number of Done tasks divided by the total number of tasks on a given list. While this has been a really helpful way to track your progress throughout the day, you were only able to account for the tasks you had marked Done. With this new feature, you can track not just your percent complete but an even more important metric: your percent accountable.
“While you may not always get 100% of your routine tasks done on a given day, you can always be 100% accountable for them.”
This metric gives you credit for all the tasks you mark as Done, Doing, or Not Doing. Why is this such a motivating metric? Because while you may not always get 100% of your routine tasks done on a given day, you can always be 100% accountable for them. Increasing your accountability is a critical step to calibrating expectations and making real progress, and our new percent accountable feature helps you do just that.
